World Storytelling Day

Once upon a time, a long time ago… This is the classic start of fairy tales and the great tradition of storytelling. World Storytelling Day is celebrated on an international level with the aim to promote oral storytelling, with an emphasis on telling or listening to stories in your own mother language.

To make it truly international you should find a way to listen to foreign storytelling arts, learn more about folklore and culture around the world. Why not find a podcast or video? I think that audiobooks could apply here, too, although finding one about traditional tales would be the most appropriate.

Storytelling is not only for children – adults may learn something from the stories other nations and cultures tell, too. Some are so funny, downright hilarious, and still very relevant today.
